Join a recognised network of animal experts

There are tens of thousands of people who work with animals every day. And every time a person puts their hands on an animal, or makes a decision that involves the animals welfare, there's a law that applies.

Whether you are a veterinarian, animal behaviourist, biosecurity expert, trainer, researcher, compliance officer or other professional whose work involves animals or animal welfare, your work may carry legal implications.

The Australian and New Zealand Animal Experts' Council (ANZAEC) is the leading body dedicated to training, accrediting and sourcing expert witnesses in animal-related fields.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND RECOGNITION FOR EXPERTS IN ANIMAL-RELATED FIELDS

ANZAEC is the brainchild of real-world litigators with lessons from the courtroom's frontline who have seen, helped, and cross-examined countless expert witnesses.

ANZAEC is more than just a course - it's a community. A course can teach you the basics, but it's naturally going to be limited in terms of making sure that you, your input and your reports are ready for legal scrutiny. That's one of the reasons why  ANZAEC has been designed by the litigators to provide you with not simply a course, but a community where like-minded experts can engage, share insights, and function together rather than alone.

By joining ANZAEC, you also add to your existing reputation and become part of a respected network which opens doors to more opportunities. Whether you're looking to grow your professional recognition as a go-to authority, or looking to mitigate legal risks in your own work, ANZAEC provides pragmatic support and usable tools to help and protect you.

With a focus on key subjects such as animal welfare law, expert report writing, and courtroom procedures, ANZAEC ensures its members are fully prepared to offer credible, authoritative testimony in a way that enables them to protect their own credibility in the process.

Animal experts know their craft. But understanding how to present that expertise - and how to safeguard their credibility - in a legal, regulatory, or courtroom context is another matter.

STRUCTURED ENTRY, REAL-WORLD RELEVANCE

ANZAEC'S Foundational Expert Witness Certification Course is a compulsory prerequisite for membership application, designed to equip professionals with the essential skills and knowledge required for expert witness work.

This course ensures that each applicant fully understands the intricacies of animal welfare law, report preparation, and courtroom procedures. It's the stuff that answers the usual questions, concerns and 'hindsight learnings' of hundreds of other expert witnesses.

By completing this training, applicants gain confidence in their ability to present clear, defensible findings, respond effectively under cross-examination, and uphold their obligations to the court. The compulsory course not only sets a high standard for membership but also serves as a reassurance to clients, lawyers, and organizations that ANZAEC members are exceptionally well-prepared.
